2016 Syrah

Dark, mysterious and exotically beautiful, this wine is a wonder, with flavors of blackberry coulis, sandalwood, jasmine oil, crushed peppercorns, cardamom and bacon fat. The palate is equally decadent, defined by an unctuous roundness, lush flavors and a long-lasting finish. A bit like our Cabernet Franc, in that once it’s charms have been discovered, they don’t let you go, this wine is an insider’s favorite. Build a fire, stare into the flames and get lost, or fire up the grill, invite your favorite people over and get a little rowdy. This one has versatility written all over it!

Our Syrah is comprised of three main vineyard blocks which are harvested and fermented individually and in diverse ways. A small portion of the wine is co-fermented with viognier grapes, a traditional Rhone winemaking technique that both enhances the aromas and stabilizes the phenolic components extracted into the wine. Additionally, about 25% of the wine is fermented as whole clusters, a technique that brings out pepper and exotic spice notes while enhancing the roundness of the mid-palate. The wines were harvested on September 19th, 24th and 30th, and were fermented in stainless steel vat and open-top T-bins for 10 – 24 days. Each wine was aged separately in neutral French oak barrels (five to eight years in age) for 14 months with minimal racking prior to blending and bottling early in 2018.
