Notes of huckleberry, ripe raspberry, pastry crumb, cardamom and molasses contribute to a deep and nuanced personality. The texture is rich and lush, with the balance of acid and tannins that makes mountain-grown Sangiovese so compelling, along with the generous midpalate that is synonymous with Pride wines.
2.3 tons of Sangiovese were co-fermented with 0.3 tons of cabernet from our Quartz Hill block and this blend aged in all neutral (five years or older) French oak barrels for 14 months. The final blend incorporated an additional 8% of Vintner Select Merlot.
Note: for the first time, the 2017 Sangiovese is bottled in 750 ml bottles, which will be the practice for all vintages of Sangiovese going forward.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: Issue 245 End of October 2019 - Rating: 90
The 2017 Sangiovese is blended of 77% Sangiovese, 15% cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Merlot made without new oak. In the beginning, when Steve's father planted, there were only two rows of Sangiovese that survived, so it was bottled in 500-milliliter bottles. This is the first vintage bottled in 750-milliliter format. Medium garnet-purple colored, it leaps from the glass with notes of black cherry compote, black raspberries and mulberries with nuances of dried herbs, lavender and underbrush. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is packed with red and black fruit flavors, sparked by herbs and textured with well-played, chewy tannins, with a long, vibrant finish. 265 cases were made this year.
Jeb Dunnuck: Napa Valley’s 2017s - Rating: 90
Including small amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, brought up all in used oak, the 2017 Sangiovese reveals a medium ruby hue as well as a sweet bouquet of spiced black cherries, mocha, vanilla, and white flowers. The Bordeaux varieties speak pretty loudly here yet it certainly has some juicy Sangiovese character. Medium-bodied, beautifully textured, and undeniably delicious, it opens up nicely with air and I suspect will evolve gracefully for 8-10 years.
