2011 Cabernet Franc

2011 Cabernet Franc

This wine is all about dark flavors, from blueberry to blackberry to the purest dark chocolate. On the palate, the wine is a push-and-pull between its dense but round tannins and its thick mid-palate, a delicious competition to determine which side of its complex personality will prevail. The wine is blended with 12% Cabernet Sauvignon from our County Line Hillside and Winery Ruins (the site of the remains of Summit Winery, established in 1890 and destroyed by fire during the 1920's) vineyard blocks. With its fully ripe, blue-black flavors and none of the herbaceousness that Cabernet Franc is somewhat infamous for, this is our original "cult wine," a wine that represents well what we are all about at Pride Mountain Vineyards and that really stands out from the pack.

12% Cabernet Sauvignon. Fully ripe and outgoing in fruit with a fine, sweet oak veneer overlying its inviting aromas of cassis and black cherries, Pride’s Cabernet Franc is a fleshy, full-bodied opus with broad, near-succulent flavors. It is underpinned by a full dose of tannin yet avoids being abrasive and coarse, and, while it is some years away from reaching its best, it shows the fruity concentration and richness to guarantee five to seven years of steady improvement.

The 2011 Cabernet Franc brings together all of the elements that make the Pride wines so delicious. Espresso, savory herbs, bittersweet chocolate and graphite notes all meld together in a beautifully expressive, layered Cabernet Franc endowed with gorgeous depth. The balance of fruit, aromatics and structure is terrific.
