Bursting with fruit, this wine expresses flavors of plum, strawberry, blueberry, mint and chocolate. The texture on the palate is gorgeously rich and thick, with lingering viscosity, subtle acidity and the concentrated tannins that typify the incredible 2015 vintage.

The theme for our Vintner Select red wines is to feature the single best vineyard blocks of our flagship varieties. Our Vintner Select Merlot is 100% clone 3 merlot, which also forms the core of our Reserve Claret. Year-in and year-out, this wine produces a luscious, intensely fruity and subtlety savory wine that is one of our favorites. The 2015 follows this trend, and to us, is the concentrated essence of merlot.

Made from 100% Merlot, the medium to deep garnet-purple colored 2015 Merlot Vintner's Select is flamboyantly scented of warmed black plums, blueberry compote, candied violets and exotic spices with hints of garrigue, fertile loam, licorice and black tea. Medium to full-bodied, the generous black fruits are beautifully perfumed with floral hints and framed by velvety tannins, finishing long and decadently spicy. 648 cases were made.

2015 Pride Mountain Vineyards, “Vintner Select,” Sonoma County ($85) – Medium to medium-dark ruby; attractive, ripe, spicy, raspberry, red currant, and black cherry fruit aroma with a hint of milk chocolate; full body; nicely balanced, somewhat elegant, spicy, red fruit flavors with a trace of sweet oak, a hint of mocha, and a full, rich mouthfeel; full tannin; lingering aftertaste. Enjoyable to drink now, though also worthy of several more years of bottle aging. Very highly recommended. 14.5% alcohol; 558 cases; 100% Merlot; released January 2018.
