2020 Vintner Select Chardonnay

This enchanting offering presents flavors of acacia blossom, Crane melon, Bosc pear, green apple, lemon zest and subtle hints of maple candy. On the palate, the wine is texturally layered, with an upfront mouth-coating richness that seamlessly transitions to vibrant freshness and acidity. Simply delicious!

The Vintner Select Chardonnay, which is typically about 250 cases each vintage, has contributions from all three of our chardonnay blocks (Dijon clone 70, the Wente clone and clone 4).  Our property makes a chardonnay that has upfront textural richness due to the abundant sunlight but has gorgeous scintillating acidity on the finish due to our cool afternoon temperatures.  The flavors are always classic, featuring crisp apple, citrus and floral notes among other nuances. Although we make another chardonnay from off-site vineyards, the Vintner Select Chardonnay is made 100% from the fruit on our property.  Within the world of high-end chardonnay, this wine has its own unique high-elevation personality that all of us at the winery are thrilled by each vintage.

  • Robert Parker Wine Advocate: Issue 257 End of October 2021 - Rating: 94

The 2020 Chardonnay Vintner Select opens with soft-spoken notions of fresh grapefruit, Bosc pears and yellow apples, leading to hints of coriander seed, sea spray and lime leaves. The medium to full-bodied palate offers tightly knit citrus and apple layers with loads of mineral accents and a racy backbone, finishing long and savory.

  • Antonio Galloni Vinous : From: The 2019 Napa Valley Cabernets: A Deep Dive (Jan 2022) - Rating: 92

The 2020 Chardonnay Vintner Select, Pride's estate Chardonnay, offers lovely texture that complements the bright citrus driven flavors. Crushed rocks, mint, sage, lemon peel and white pepper open nicely with a bit of time in the glass.

Clean, crisp notes of crushed citrus, white flowers, chalky minerality, and subtle toasty nuances all emerge from the 2020 Chardonnay Vintner Select, a balanced, medium-bodied, elegant Chardonnay with bright, integrated acidity and a crisp finish. It's impeccably made and will keep for 5-7 years, although there's no need to delay gratification.
