2015 Vintner Select Cabernet Sauvignon
Our 2015 Vintner Select Cabernet Sauvignon expresses the balance, concentration, and purity of varietal character that have emerged as the signature of the great 2015 reds. Flavors of blackberry, plum, cocoa powder and rose petal are expressed in the nose, while on the palate, the wine is ripe, round and lush. The ripe tannins seamlessly integrate into the persistent finish, which is a desired signature of our Vintner Select Cabernet each year.
This wine is produced from a single vineyard block at the western-most edge of our Spring Mountain estate, above the Napa Valley’s morning fog, where it is bathed in warm sunlight throughout the growing season. The block, named “Carolyn’s” after Carolyn Pride, is planted to 70% clone 337 and 30% clone 15 cabernet sauvignon. With an ultra-light crop in 2015 and excellent ripening conditions throughout the growing season, the grapes were night-harvested on September 30th, gently destemmed and transferred to a stainless-steel fermentation vat. After twenty days on the skins, the wine was drained and transferred to French oak barrels, 50% new, where it was barrel-aged for twenty months.

Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Vintner's Select features expressive notes of crushed black raspberries, kirsch, black currants and mulberries with nuances of bay leaves, licorice, underbrush and charcuterie. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has wonderfully youthful, energetic black and red berry flavors, supported by a grainy texture and lovely freshness, finishing long on an uplifting herbal note. 648 cases were made.

Like the Vintner Select Merlot, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Vintner Select is very ripe, but the Cabernet seems to have enough of an underpinning of structure to handle all of that intensity. Grilled herbs, smoke, leather and tobacco add complexity as the wine builds into a substantial, resonant finish.
California Grapevine: Volume 44
2015 Pride Mountain Vineyards, “Vintner Select,” Napa Valley ($95) – Medium to medium-dark ruby color; attractive, ripe, fragrant, blackberry, plum, and cassis aroma with hints of dried herbs, espresso, green olive, mocha, and rose petal; full body; rich, ripe, nicely balanced, cedary, dark berry fruit flavors with a hint of dark chocolate; full tannin; lingering aftertaste. Showed some elegance and complexity as it developed with airing in the glass making it very enjoyable to taste now, though also has good bottle aging potential. Very highly recommended. 14.6% alcohol; 1,457 cases; 100% Cabernet Sauvignon (CS); released January 2018. (Group Score: 16.7 of 20 points, 4 of 10 first-place votes/2 seconds/2 thirds; My Score: 17 [92 of 100 points], first place)

Pride's vineyards straddle both Napa and Sonoma. This mid-tier wine comes from the Napa side of the Mayacamas. Bright, curranty fruit, paired with creamy oak, polished tannins and nervy acidity are its hallmarks. Drink 2019-2030 Alc 14.5%
