2014 Cabernet Franc

This wine has lovely aromas of strawberry, raspberry and other red fruits, as well as a plethora of floral nuances including jasmine, violet and lily of the valley. Subtle notes of eucalyptus, cloves, crushed leaves and peppermint add complexity and play to the flavor profile. On the palate, the 2014 Cabernet Franc is round and rich, with tannins that are mouth-coatingly present but not aggressive.

For this vintage, we have blended in slightly more cabernet sauvignon than we typically use, for a total of 11% of the blend. The cabernet sauvignon adds a bit of size and structure to the mouth. We have also used 8.5% merlot to enhance the lush, ripe fruit character.

The 2014 Cabernet Franc, which sees 18 months in 40% new French oak, is actually a blend of 80.5% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Deep opaque purple in color, with notes of spring flowers, black raspberries and blueberries, the wine hits the palate with more florest floor and floral notes, a continuation of the blue and red fruit flavor spectrum, some nice spice, and finely tuned sweet tannin. This medium to full-bodied beauty should drink nicely for 10-15+ years.

This wine is well made, structured and built to age. A wealth of baked plum meets clove, leather and mouth-coating tannin weight, as a full-bodied concentration of meaty texture provides heft and depth.

Blackberries, black raspberries, scorched earth, wet rock and coffee notes all emerge from the 2014 Cabernet Franc. A blend of 80% Cabernet Franc, 11% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Merlot, aged in 40% new French oak, it’s medium to full-bodied, firm, fresh and focused on the palate, with building tannin. Give bottles 2-3 years and drink over the following decade.

Medium to medium-dark ruby; attractive, forward, deep, intense, spicy, cherry, and red berry fruit aroma with a floral note; full body; forward, ripe, textured, cedary, red and dark berry fruit flavors with some plummy richness in the mouthfeel; full tannin; lingering aftertaste. Enjoyable to drink now, though has the balance and structure to support a good five more years of bottle aging. Very highly recommended.
