2010 Vintner Select Chardonnay

2010 Vintner Select Chardonnay

This vivacious wine is from a near-perfect vintage for the varietal. The season kicked off with a cooler and wetter than average spring, resulting in a late budbreak and bloom that was delayed until early June. A long, temperate summer followed. Our Spring Mountain estate experienced warm mornings above the fog that filled the Napa Valley for most of the summer, while afternoon highs rarely exceeded the upper 80's – just perfect ripening conditions for this delicate grape. Over the past few years, we have been moving toward a crisper, more vibrant style for our Vintner Select Chardonnay, and this year's cuvée exceeds our expectations. Bright acidity offsets fresh flavors of melon, quince, green apple and exotic flowers, while on the palate the wine displays the estate's characteristic creamy mid-palate and captivating finish.

This white is intense and vibrant, a touch coarse, with pithy citrus and green apple flavors. Very tightly wound, adding a touch of nectarine on the finish. You can enjoy this now, but it's best to cellar. Best from 2013 through 2022. 293 cases made.

  • California Grapevine: May 2012 - Rating: 92

Medium-light golden yellow; attractive, forward, buttery, spicy, baked apple aroma with floral, mineral notes; medium-full body; slightly creamy, melon and green apple flavors with bright acidity and oaky overtones; lingering aftertaste. Shows good depth and structure and deserves another year or two of bottle aging. Very highly recommended.

  • The Wine Advocate: December 2012 - Rating:

The 2010 Chardonnay Vintner's Select is striking. Smoke, graphite and minerals lead to juicy apricots and peaches in this gorgeous wine. The 2010 has tons of mountain minerality and focus. Initially quite rich and large-scaled, the 2010 finds its vibrancy on the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2017.
