2009 Vintner Select Cabernet Sauvignon
The Vintner Select Cabernet Sauvignon, made from 100% clone 337 cabernet, is deep and brooding, with an intensity that nearly rivals that of our Reserve Cabernet. The influence of the cooler vintage can be seen in the black and blue character of the wine – ripe blueberry, black raspberry and black cherry dominate, rather than the straightforward red fruit typical of a hotter vintage. There is plenty to ponder in this wine as well, with nuances of graphite, coffee and tar emerging as the wine evolves in the glass. A generous and open wine with a massive finish, this wine is raring to go.

Another juicy, expressive wine, the 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Vintner's Select shows considerably more textural roundness and depth than the straight Cabernet bottling. Plush, round and deep, the 2009 covers every inch of the palate with layers of fruit. Hints of smoke, menthol, tar and graphite add gravitas on the dark, brooding finish. - October 23, 2012 Steven Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: May/June 2011 Issue 156

Good dark red-ruby. Currant, mocha and nutty oak on the inviting nose. Sweet, suave and seamless, but with harmonious acidity lifting the dark berry and mocha flavors. Rich but elegantly styled mountain cabernet with fine-grained tannins and excellent persistence. - February 8, 2012 Steven Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: May/June 2011 Issue 156

Very deep, bright ruby-red. Slightly high-toned, expressive aromas of black cherry, red currant, cedar and tobacco. Dense, thick and sweet; rounder and more open-knit today than the Vintner Select Merlot, with noteworthy breadth to the flavors of redcurrant, dark chocolate, cedar and sexy herbs. Finishes with a substantial tongue-dusting of tannins that are supported by the wine's mid-palate sweetness.
