2002 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
From Bob Foley: Beautifully ripened and carefully oaked 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Black cherry, currant and a suggestion of saddle leather nuances combine to offer irresistible aromatics. Lush mid-palate textures introduce the sweet, dense tannin spectrum where dark muddled cherries and toasty oak flavors marry and linger in another amazing finish.Back to Full Wine List

(a selected vineyard block consisting mostly of 30 year old vines): Good red-ruby. Roasted red currant, mocha, licorice, dark chocolate and menthol on the nose; clearly riper than the regular cabernet. Then big, chewy, broad and deep, with powerful flavors of currant, chocolate, mocha and tobacco, sweetened by oak. Finishes impressively long, with big, broad, horizontal tannins.

Rating: 96 - 100
The 2002 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (100% Cabernet) has inky ruby/purple color and a gorgeously sweet nose of crème de cassis and cherries intermixed with some vanilla and spice. The wine is opulent, full-bodied, with an unctuous texture and blockbuster finish with no hard edges. It seems to be on a faster evolutionary track than the 2001, but who's complaining? This is still a 15-18 year wine.

The 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve (100% Cabernet Sauvignon) reveals an inkier purple color along with a classic nose of graphite, creme de cassis, smoke, crushed rocks, and barrique. Surprisingly approachable, long, concentrated, and impressive with flawless integration of wood, tannin, and acidity, it can be enjoyed over the next 15+ years.

Spice, red currant and blackberry aromas, turning taut and firm on the palate with with mouthcoating tannins. Hints of mocha and vanilla bean add a nice flavor dimemsion and on the finish the fruit and tannins shine through. Best from 2009 through 2014.
