Our location at 2100’ and emphasis on true physiological ripeness of the berries means that we consistently produce outstanding wines. In a vintage like this, our wines are mind-blowing. (Okay, we’re being a little modest.) Here in the 2001 Merlot, the proof is in the glass. Inky black in color and profusely aromatic, cassis and chocolate shout from the glass. Take that first sip and ripe dark cherries and roasted coffee beans explode in your mouth, while the weight of the wine permeates your gums. A good introduction to the Pride Mountain Style is the 2001 Merlot (4,000 cases) made from their vineyard that straddles the Napa and Sonoma County Line. Hence this cuvee is composed of 55% Napa and 45% Sonoma fruit. A big, structured, inky-purple-colored offering, it possesses gorgeous aromas of creosote, damp earth, sweet black cherry as well as currant fruit, and a chocolately aftertaste. Rich and intense, with the wood well in check, this sumptuous Merlot is top-notch.
