2001 Pride Cabernet Sauvignon
What can we say about a Cabernet of this caliber? It is quite simply the best wine Bob Foley has ever made. Robert Parker called it a “showstopper” when he visited the winery and tasted it from barrel. The Wine Spectator loved it – James Laube gave the barrel sample he requested a 95-100 point score on the Spectator’s website last year. Even those of us watching the progress of this wine from vine to barrel to bottle are simply stunned by what is now in the glass. Readily compared to the 1997 and 1999 vintages, the 2001 Pride Cabernet Sauvignon is raising the bar for world class Cabernets.
Bob Foley’s Winemaker Notes:
“The depth of color in the 2001 Cabernet is amazing – opaque, purple and inky. Leggy as can be, intoxicatingly dark fruit aromas of currant, cassis and crushed dried herbs enchant the nose, while ripe blackberry flavors explode in the mouth. The tannins are remarkably easygoing and spread evenly across the palate, resolving in a finish that lasts even longer in memory than it does on the tongue.”Back to Full Wine List

"Barrel Tasting" Dark, rich and plush, with an unusual display of fruit opulence; polished blackberry, huckleberry and raspberry fruit is lush, deeply concentrated and long on the finish. Toasty oak adds a fascinating dimension.
- November 01, 2007 Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, May/June 2004
Aromas of blackberry and blackcurrant liqueur, black plum and chocolate. Juicy, penetrating and brooding, yet at the same time sweet and seamless. High-pitched, highly concentrated flavors of black fruits and minerals. A powerfully tannic wine that finishes with terrific thrust. Compared to some of the other Pride 2001's this really demands a few years of cellaring, and may ultimately merit an even higher score.
- November 01, 2007 California Grapevine, Feb./March 2004
Medium-dark ruby with purplish tinges; attractive, spicy, complex, smoky, cassis and red cherry fruit aroma with overtones of vanilla and coffee; full body; big, intense, hard, highly extracted, red currant and black cherry fruit flavors with overtones of creamy oak; full tannin; hard, harsh finish; lingering aftertaste. Needs another three to five more years of bottle aging. Very Highly recommended. 14.1% alcohol; 3,304 cases; 100% CS; released August 2003.
- November 01, 2007 The Wine Advocate, Dec. 23, 2004
There are 3,000 cases of this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Its inky/purple color is followed by scents of pure cr?me de cassis intertwined with licorice, smoke, and cigar tobacco. Sweet tannin forms a backdrop for a wine of admirable texture, intensity, and purity. A tremendous experience to smell and taste, it should be at its peak between 2006-2020.

Tough and difficult to taste when first opened, this begins its transformation with a day of air. From black and bitter to a stream of red currants and earth, the wine is still aggressively tannic, but it shows that it could grow up into something extraordinary. Check on it ten years from the vintage, or if you open the bottle now for a steak dinner, decant the morning before you plan to serve it, or perhaps the night before.
