1998 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
This Cabernet Sauvignon displays an extremely dark ruby hue, the first indication of its degree of ripe extraction. The bouquet offers a harmony of black cherry and cassis, cedar and clove with a hint of cocoa. Remarkably even on the palate, the ripe cherry flavors mingle with the character of espresso beans. The tannins provide just enough grip in the finish to indicate that the bottle aging potential should be measured in decades.

The limited production Reserve Cuvees are expressions of California winemaking at its most compelling. The Opaque purple colored 1998 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is extraordinarily full-bodied and powerful, with unbelievable finesse and harmony for a wine of such great extract and richness. Pure cr?me de cassis intermixed with licorice, minerals, smoke, and incense is accompanied by sweet tannin, well integrated acidity, wood, and alcohol and a stupendous finish lasting nearly 45 seconds. It's approachable, but should age easily for two decades. (450 cases). - November 02, 2007 The Wine Spectator, Sept. 15, 2001

Ideally balanced, displaying supple-textured currant, coffee, herb, anise, sage and toasty oak flavors that are all sharply focused and that turn firm and complex on the finish. Drink now through 2008. 348 cases made. - November 02, 2007 Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, May/June 2001

Saturated purple-ruby. Restrained but complex aromas of blackberry, cassis, violet, licorice, bitter chocolate and minerals. Juicy and very firmly built; conveys a stronger impression of acidity. Black fruits complicated by mocha and dark chocolate notes. Less broad than the reserve claret but subtler and longer. Finishes with nobler tannins and slowly mounting, persistent flavor.
